An article about grief & an article about strength
I found two really great articles today that hit me on social and personal levels.
This article really speaks to people with chronic illness and the disturbing rhetoric and language around illness & health, strength & weakness.
What Strength Really Means When You’re Sick
"The metaphors that Trump and others use when talking about COVID-19 are making the pandemic worse."
By Ed Yong
This other article is about grief. Grief that is going to come wave after wave for who knows how long. I think Americans have a very hard time grasping the fact that we are losing, and that is not going to stop. It doesn't mean all is lost, or that we can't grow, but it's not going to stop.
The Covid-19 pandemic will be outlasted by the grief pandemic — and no one is preparing for it
"The third wave of coronavirus may very well be its emotional toll. In the absence of a comforter in chief, it’s up to all of us to fill the vacuum." - by Gabrielle Birkner and Rebecca Soffer, cofounders of MODERN LOSS
(I included a link to Modern Loss above because I'm just amazed at that resource.)
